This means that ski and snowboard holidays are very much back on the agenda.

We recently reported on PlanetSKI on the almost total easing of restrictions in France and the abolition of UK return travel rules.

  • French ski resorts return to normal as Covid rules go
  • All UK travel rules scrapped

Intersport Rental is now reporting a surge in bookings for the Easter holidays.

“Easter is the perfect time to go skiing or snowboarding in the Alps,” says BBC Ski Sunday and Olympic commentator Ed Leigh.

“Especially for families and those new to the sport, as it’s typically warm and sunny. Think outdoor picnics beside the slopes and lunches on sunny terraces.

“The snow is likely to be soft and slushy, which makes for fun times on the mountain, with none of the ice or freezing blizzards on chairlifts that might characterise an early season trip.”

Easter is late this year, but  historical data for late season compiled by Snow-Forecast.com, show that some resorts have their highest snow levels at the end of March.

That means that even by easter-time there should be plenty of snow on the slopes.

And even at the end of April a resort like Tignes in France averages 2.2 powder days a week (again according to Snow-Forecast.com).
