We’ve chosen to head to Serre Chevalier, France, as it offers a vast ski area with 81 pistes and oodles of great off piste in and above the treeline. Spread along the valley from Briançon to Le Monêtier, the resort offers four distinct but connected areas.
Snow cover is reliable as Serre Chevalier’s slopes face mainly north and 80 per cent of them are above 2000m. And a third of the pistes are equipped with snowmaking, so snow is usually good even in a poor year.
The resort has a more relaxed feel than bigger name French rivals like Méribel and Val-d’Isère and more down to earth prices to boot. It has been described as like Provence on the slopes.
Prices aren’t something you will need to concern yourself with because at Club Med everything is included, well almost. We’re not just talking breakfast, lunch and dinner but your lift pass, ski or snowboard lessons (whatever your level), off piste guiding and even all your drinks and entertainment including discos and shows. The only essential you’ll need to pay for is ski or snowboard hire.
The ski-in/ski-out Club Med resort is tucked away at 1400m in the wooded valley of Briançon. It’s made up of traditional wood and stone chalets, in-keeping with the rustic charm of Les Ecrins National Park. And it comes with an indoor swimming pool and spa facilities – always an après ski winner.
Club Med has been super proactive in making sure their holidays are as Covid-19 safe as possible. The company has, for example, limited the capacity of its resorts to a two-third maximum occupancy, reduced the capacity of its transfers, reinforced deep cleaning and sanitising of all surfaces and equipment, created protocols in the event of a suspected Covid-19 case, and put in place a doctor and/or a nurse in each of its resorts. Find out more about all the measures they’ve put in place here.
InTheSnow’s Managing Editor Henry Druce will be on hand throughout the week to make sure everything is running smoothly and share some slopetime with you. He’s an old hand at running ski trips for the Daily Mail and more recently The Telegraph and will do everything possible to make sure the trip is a success.
At the start of the week there will be a welcome drinks party to help people mingle and get into the holiday mood. On the final evening there will be an end of week party with some great prizes.
It’s going to be a blast – do join us.
