The Brit has taken his second World Cup podium of the season after his historic win in Kitzbühel in January. He came from 19th after the first run. Tributes are pouring in as PlanetSKI is set to meet interview him on the slopes on Obergurgl on Monday. UPDATED

It was second men’s slalom race in two days in the German resort of Garmisch Partenkirchen.

They were the first since the Beijing Olympics at which Ryding came 13th.

  • Dave Ryding Misses Out On Olympic Medal

On Saturday, Ryding finished in 20th place.

And on Sunday it wasn’t looking like a podium was on the cards when he finished 19th after the first run.

He was 1.41 seconds behind the leader, Loic Meillard.

But on a course set by his coach, Tristan Glasse-Davies, 35-year-old Ryding flew.

All the faster skiers bar one from the first run then failed to beat his second run time or failed to finish.

The Norwegian, Henrik Kristoffersen was the one to pip Ryding by 0.35 seconds and take the top spot, with his second consecutive victory.

Linus Strasser of Germany was 3rd.

It’s another stunning performance and gives him his second World Cup podium of the season after he became the first British alpine skier to win a World Cup race.

Ryding is now 4th in the overall World Cup slalom rankings.

The GB former racer Konrad Bartelski was one of the first to congratulate him on social media.

We’ll bring you more reaction to the news later so do check back.

On Monday the PlanetSKI editor, James Cove, is meeting Dave Ryding for a pre-arranged interview in Austria.

The two will be looking back at the season, looking ahead to the future and it seems they’ll now have something further to celebrate.

“The timing could not be better and people here in Obergurgl, where Dave Ryding trains have been coming up and shaking my hand as news spread of his latest success,” said James.

“He is a well-known figure in the resort and much-liked.”

Look out for that PlanetSKI interview later…
