Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood is known for getting plenty of snow. The Cascade Range in general, being close to the ocean, gets a lot of moisture. Now as the calendar turns to the second half of May, the resort is set up well to continue operations into summer with a current snow base depth of 175 inches.

A huge help for the snowpack came late this spring. After a dry spell for much of the winter, snowstorms built the base up again in April. More snow has fallen in May as well.

Total snowfall for the year sits at 568 inches and the current Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) is at 237% of the historical average. This bodes well not only for Timberline’s summer ski operations, expected to last until Labor Day, but also good for the forests and rivers in the Pacific Northwest.
