Ski resorts across the Alps have been posting pictures of fresh snowfall which has been dumping down over the past few days to mark the start of November.

The latter half of October was mostly dry and sunny but since late on Halloween weather fronts have brought much colder temperatures and snow down to the valley floor for most areas.

The biggest accumulations reported so far – up to 50cm (20”) has been up on glaciers, but many areas have reported 20-40cm (8-16”) of snowfall, and for most there’s more on the way later this week.

Around 20 ski resorts are already open in Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland, most of them with glaciers.

You can already ski at Andermatt, Engelberg, Cervinia (pictured below yesterday), Hintertux (pictured top this morning) Kitzbuhel, Les 2 Alpes, Saas Fee (pictured above yesterday), Solden,  Tignes and Zermatt among others and more glacier areas plan to open this coming weekend.

It’s also only 2-4 weeks since the main winter season begins to kick off for many other resorts so they’ll be pleased to see snow arriving to help them build bases.
